Note – In order to rename the folder you have to long tap on the Whatsapp images folder and you will shortly seen an option for rename.

• That’s it and now if you go to the gallery you will no longer see the Whatsapp images there.

What does prefix ( . ) do ?

This dot prefix basically hides the folder just like in linux operating system and android also runs on linux therefore here too the dot prefix just hides the folder and is thus not visible in the Gallery.

How to Get Back the Whatsapp Images in the Gallery ?

In order to see the whatsapp images once again in the gallery you just need to remove the dot prefix from the folders name which can be easily done by connecting your smartphone to a computer system.

Method – 3 :

4 Ways to Find GPS Coordinates for Any Location

There are certain occasions when you need the exact coordinates for a specific location, but most map applications don’t show that kind of data front and center because it’s not something that is needed very often. I’ve learned that getting the GPS coordinates can be very handy if your GPS device can’t find a specific address.

If you’re like me and haven’t updated your Garmin or TomTom in years, then a lot of newer areas simply won’t show up when you search for them. Also, if you are short on data usage, it’s probably not a good idea to use your smartphone for getting directions. In these types of cases, I simply use a service like Google Maps to get the coordinates for the address I am looking for and then I just plug those into the GPS in my car.

In this article, I’ll show you a couple of different ways to get the GPS coordinates for a location. I’ll even show you how you can get the latitude and longitude for your current location using your smartphone (iPhone and Android).

Google Maps

I use Google Maps mostly for my mapping needs because I think they have the best data and the most features. To get GPS coordinates using Google Maps is really easy. There are two ways you can go about it.

Firstly, go to maps.google.com and type in the address or location you are interested in. Once it has loaded, you can just look in the address bar and you’ll see the coordinates are contained within the URL itself.

What if the location you are trying to get coordinates for doesn’t have an address that shows up in Google Maps? That’s not a problem either. In that case, you can just right-click anywhere on the screen and choose What’s here?

This will bring up a small box that it located directly below the search box. At the bottom of that box, you will see the decimal coordinates listed.

Bing Maps

I also mention Bing Maps because they do show the coordinates front and center, which is nice. Just search for any location and you’ll see the coordinates displayed on the left hand side.

For a location without an address, you can simply right-click anywhere on the map and it displays the coordinates automatically. So Bing is definitely easier to use when looking for GPS coordinates.

iPhone Coordinates

If you’re looking for a quick way to give someone the current coordinates of your iPhone, you can do it very easily using the Compass app. However, before you just open the Compass app on your phone, you first need to change some location settings. To do this, tap on Settings and then tap Privacy.

Now tap on Location Services at the very top.

Scroll down until you see Compass and tap on it. If you see it already says While Using on the right side, then you’re already good to go.

If not, tap on it and choose While Using the App.

Now go ahead and open the Compass app and you will see your current location and the current GPS coordinates at the bottom of the screen.

Android Coordinates

Unfortunately, Android does not have an official built-in way to get GPS coordinates from Google Maps. I have no idea why this option is not included, but it isn’t. However, there is a little trick that you can perform in order to get the coordinates, which requires a couple of extra steps.

First, open Google Maps on your Android device and search for the location you are interested in. Once you have found the location, make sure you zoom in as far in as possible.

Now press and hold anywhere on the screen and Google Maps will drop a pin onto that location. An info or detail card will appear at the bottom and you can swipe up on this card. You should see a Share option on the info card, but if you don’t, you might have to tap the three dots in the top right corner. This will bring up a menu that has a Share option. This sharing method differs depending on your version of Android and Google Maps, but it should be pretty easy to find.

Choose any service or app to share, it doesn’t really matter which one. The point is Google Maps will generate a link and all you need to do is copy that link and paste it into Chrome.

When the map loads, it will automatically show you the coordinates in the search box and in the info card at the bottom. The link will look something like this:

Note that you can also perform this exact same operation in Google Maps on iOS too. It’s kind of a long-winded way of getting the coordinates, but at least you don’t have to install any additional apps.

How to Open UIF File

Have you recently downloaded a UIF file and now want to mount it so that you can view the contents? A UIF file is actually a MagicISO CD/DVD image file. The file can contain documents, photos, videos, etc. In order to view the contents, you have to first mount the UIF image file.

There are many formats for creating images files of CD/DVDs, but UIF is used because it provides better encryption and also has better compression. The most common image format is ISO.

Instead of trying to mount a UIF directly, the best option is to convert the UIF image to an ISO image and then mount the ISO image. In this article, I’ll walk you through the various steps.

MagicISO

Since MagicISO is the program that creates these UIF files, we can use it to decompress and convert the UIF to to ISO. Unfortunately, MagicISO is not free, but you can still use the trial edition to decompress UIF files up to 300 MB in size. First download the software, run it and then click on Tools and Decompress UIF Image.

Choose the source file and by default the ISO output file will be created in the same directory. Click the Decompress button and you should have an ISO file within a short time.

If your file is larger than 300MB, then instead of spending any money buying MagicISO, you can use a free third-party utility to perform the conversion.

UIF to ISO

UIF to ISO is a very simple free program that only converts UIF images to ISO images. Run the program and click the Open button to choose the UIF file.

By default, the program will save the ISO to the same directory. Click the Convert button and your file will be converted. It’s that simple! Now let’s talk about mounting the ISO image in Windows.

Mount ISO Image

Mounting an ISO image is also a fairly easy process. Depending on which version of Windows you are running, it may not even require installing any additional software.

For example, in Windows 8 you can mount an ISO image by simply right-clicking on the file or by clicking the Mount button in Explorer.

If you are running Windows 7 or earlier, then you have to download a freeware utility to mount ISO images. Read my previous post on creating, mounting and burning ISO image files to mount the ISO file. In that post, I mentioned a tool called Virtual Clone Drive, which I feel is the best overall for mounting ISO images.

However, there are other good programs too. There is another program from MagicISO called MagicDisc, which is free. This program supports a large range of CD/DVD image formats including BIN, CIF, NRG, IMG, VCD, C2D, PDI, and lots more.

To mount an image using MagicDisc, install it and then right-click on the icon in the system tray. Expand Virtual CD/DVD-ROM, choose X: No Media and then choose Mount. By default, only one drive is set, but you can have up to 15 virtual drives connected at once if you like.

Find the decompressed ISO file on your computer and click Open! You should now be able to go to My Computer and browse the CD or DVD like a normal Windows drive.

In addition to mounting images, the program also lets you create image files, compress them to UIF format, and decompress them from UIF to ISO.

Another extra benefit of MagicDisc is that since it’s created by the MagicISO team, it also supports mounting UIF images. So instead of worrying about converting the UIF file first, you can just download and install MagicDisc and then mount the UIF image directly to read the contents. How to Make a Desktop or Laptop Act Like a Router

Looking for a way to convert your laptop or desktop into a wireless router? You may find yourself in a situation where there isn’t a wireless router around for everyone to connect to. If only one computer is connected to a cable or DSL modem, you can convert that computer into a router or wireless router, if the computer has a wireless card.

Before we talk about the setup process, it’s important to know the requirements. The main requirement is that the computer has to have at least two network interfaces installed on the system. You can either have two network cards or one network card and a wireless card. If you only have one network interface, you can’t convert your computer into a router.

Also, on Windows computers, the process of setting up this router functionality is called Internet Connection Sharing. However, in order to have clients connect to the host computer wirelessly, you also have to setup an ad-hoc wireless network that connects to the Internet using the other network interface installed on the machine.

For a better understanding, here are the tasks we need to complete in order to make your computer into a wireless router:

Step 1: Enable Internet Connection Sharing on the Local Area Connection interface

Step 2: Create a new ad-hoc wireless network

Step 3: Connect to the new wireless network on the host computer

Step 4: Connect each client to the new ad-hoc wireless network

Step 1 – Enable ICS

To enable ICS in Windows, open the Control Panel and click on Network and Sharing Center. Make sure you are in icon view and not category view. Click on Change adapter settings in the left-hand menu.

Now right-click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties. Note that on some other sites state that you should right-click on Wireless Network Connection, but this would mean the wireless connection would be shared and all clients would have to connect via Ethernet. It’s a lot more complicated and I’ve never even been able to get it to work, so stick with Local Area Connection if you want to make your life easier.

Click on the Sharing tab and there is really only one box you can check: Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection.

When you check the box, the dropdown box under Home networking connection will become enabled. Here you want to select the wireless network connection for your wireless card.

If you have more than one listed, it could be that one of them is a virtual adapter. Make sure to not choose that one. You can tell if there is a virtual adapter when you look at all the adapters after clicking Change adapter settings at the beginning of this article.

Click OK and close out of the Properties window. Now the LAN connection will be shared and we can move on to step 2.

Step 2 – Create Ad-Hoc Wireless Network

To create the ad-hoc wireless network that the client’s machines will connect to, we need to go back to Network and Sharing Center and click on Set up a new connection or network.

Now scroll down and click on Setup a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network.

Click next and then give your network a name. This name will be the SSID for the network that other users will see on their computers. For Security type, choose None and leave the Security key box blank.

Also, make sure to check the Save this network box. Click Next and it will setup the new wireless network and tell you that it’s ready to use. Click Close and move on to Step 3.

Step 3 – Connect to Ad Hoc Network

Now that the new network has been set up, we need to make sure we are connected to it on the host computer. To do this, click on the network icon in the notification area of the taskbar.

As you can see, my network is called Shared and the status is Waiting for users. This means the host computer is already connected and is waiting for other users to connect. You can click on the network name and click Connect if the system didn’t connect automatically. Once another user connects, the status should change to Connected.

Step 4 – Connect Clients

The last step is the easiest. Just go to a client machine and click on the network icon and click on the ad-hoc network name. You should connect automatically without any issues.

The only change you have to make on client machines is in Internet Explorer. Open IE and then click on the gear icon and choose Internet Options.

Click on the Connections tab and then click on LAN Settings at the bottom.

You want to go ahead and uncheck anything that is checked here. Automatically detect settings will most likely be checked, so make sure to uncheck this box.

Note that you should only follow this procedure on the client computers, not the host computer. At this point, you should be able to connect to the Internet from the client machine.

Troubleshooting

If you are connected to the ad-hoc network, but are not able to access the Internet on the client machine, you can try a couple of troubleshooting tips.

Reset Winsock

After playing around with ICS on several computers, there were times when I could open a command prompt and ping a website like Google.com, but could not access it via the web browser. If you’re having a similar issue, you can try resetting Winsock. To do this, open an administrative command prompt by clicking on Start, typing in cmd and then right-clicking on cmd and choose Run as Administrator.

Now type in netsh winsock reset and press Enter. The command will complete and it’ll tell you to restart the computer.

How to Find BIOS Version on Computer

Need to find or check the current BIOS version on your laptop or desktop computer? The BIOS or UEFI firmware is the software that comes installed on your PC motherboard by default and that detects and controls the built-in hardware including hard drives, video cards, USB ports, memory, etc.

Whether you need to update the BIOS or not is something I’ve written about previously and the basic premise of that article was not to update unless you really have a specific need to.

So how do you go about figuring out if you need to update the BIOS on your computer? Well first you’ll need to figure out the current version of the BIOS. In this article, I’ll explain multiple ways you can determine the BIOS version. Once you have the current version, you can visit the manufacturer’s website to see what the latest version is.

System Information

Click on Start, choose Run and type in msinfo32. This will bring up the Windows System information dialog box.

In the System Summary section, you should see an item called BIOS Version/Date. Now you know the current version of your BIOS.

Command Line

Another easy way to determine your BIOS version without rebooting the machine is to open a command prompt and type in the following command:

wmic bios get smbiosbiosversion

The command line will just give you the version number of the BIOS and that’s pretty much it. However, there are more commands that will get you a bit more info.

wmic bios get biosversion

wmic bios get version

Windows Registry

Just about everything in Windows is stored in the Registry and the version of the BIOS is no exception! Go to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System

And you’ll see several keys related to the BIOS, including SystemBiosDate, SystemBiosVersion, VideoBiosDate, and VideoBiosVersion.

Windows Startup

Another method to determine the BIOS version on your computer is to simply restart the computer. Some computers, including Dell, show you the BIOS version number when the computer first boots up.

If not, you can enter the BIOS setup by pressing F12, DEL, F10 or F12 when it shows up during startup. Other computer manufacturers may have a different key to enter setup, but it will usually tell you which key to press.

Since the BIOS interface is different for just about every computer manufacturer, you will have to navigate around until you see BIOS Revision or BIOS Version.

If you are using a newer computer running Windows 8 with UEFI instead of the traditional BIOS, you won’t be able to press any key during startup. In those cases, you have to boot to the System Recovery Options screen. Once there, you have to click on Troubleshoot and then Advanced Options.

This is the same method for getting Windows 8 into Safe Mode, but instead of clicking on Startup Settings, you should click on UEFI Firmware Settings. Note that you won’t see this option if your BIOS isn’t UEFI.

Third Party Software

If you’d prefer to use a third-party utility that can give you other information about your computer too, then a good option is Speccy. It’s from the same company that created CCleaner, one of the best maintenance tools for Windows PCs.

Click on Motherboard and then you’ll see a section called BIOS that gives you the Brand, Version and Date of the BIOS. The program also gives you a lot of other system info on CPU, RAM, Storage, etc.

Conclusion

So those are pretty much all the different ways you can determine your BIOS version. Updating your BIOS is something you should only do if needed and with great caution. A failed BIOS update can brick your entire computer and force you to spend a lot of money getting it repaired.

When updating the BIOS, there is no single way to go about it. Each motherboard manufacturer has their own set of tools for updating the BIOS. Some have the options in the BIOS itself to update, others require you to boot from a USB drive and flash the BIOS that way.

Each BIOS file will usually come in a compressed archive package that includes a ReadMe text file. It’s essential you read that file because it will have exact instructions for updating the BIOS.

The only method of updating the BIOS that you should avoid is the Windows option. This is usually a Windows application you can download and run from within Windows to flash the BIOS. The problem is that it can fail since Windows is still running and it’s usually not even recommended by the manufacturers themselves. It is the easiest way, but it carries the most risk of failure.

Change Clock To and From Military Time in Windows

Most people probably don’t care, but the default time display in Windows is 12 hour format, not military time. However, for all of the people who routinely tell time using the military time format, being able to change it on their computers can prove to be very useful.

You would think it would be super easy to change the clock in Windows to military time, but it’s not! The procedure is also different depending on which version of Windows you are using. In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps to change your Windows XP, 7, 8, or 10 PC time to military format.

Windows XP Time Format

First open the Control Panel and then open Regional and Language Options. If you don’t see the icons, click the Switch to Classic View link at the top left.

Next click on the Customize button on the Regional Options tab.

Click on the Time tab and choose any of the options with the upper case H. Lower case h means 12 hour format and upper case H means 24 hour format.

Now click OK until you are back to the Control Panel. Not a very straightforward process at all. It would make much more sense to put the option in the Date and Time Properties dialog when you double click on the time in your system tray.

Microsoft has kind of done this in Windows 7 and higher, but it takes quite a few clicks to get it done. Ironically, it’s faster to use the Control Panel in Windows 7 and higher. I explain the steps below for later versions of Windows.

Windows 7, 8 & 10 Time Format

In Windows 7, open the Control Panel and click on Region and Language. In Windows 8 and Windows 10, it’s just called Region. If you are in Category view, switch to Small or Large icons at the top right.

Now in Windows 7 and higher, the Formats tab is front and center and you can change the time format from the Short time and Long time dropdowns.

Again, the capital H is military time. In order for the change to appear in the time shown in the taskbar, you have to change the Long time format. I’m not sure where the Short time format is used in Windows, but you can change that too in order to keep everything consistent.

The other way to go about this in Windows 7, 8, and 10 is to click on the date and time in the taskbar and then click Change date and time settings.

A new dialog will appear and at the top you have to click the Change date and time button.

Another dialog will pop up where you can actually adjust the date and time manually. Here you have to click on the Change calendar settings link.

Finally, this will bring up Customize Format dialog, where you have to click on the Time tab. This is a really long way to get to the same dialog that you can get to in one click from the Control Panel.
